Three charged as lengthy probe yields contraband drugs in Alberta correctional facility

A year-and-a-half-long investigation at an Alberta correctional facility has resulted in two arrests and multiple drug charges.

In late 2019, staff at the Bowden Institution were informed of “suspicious activity” taking place on the property, which is owned and operated by Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

A search of the institution and subsequent investigation was executed by the Innisfail RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), the Slave Lake RCMP GIS and the Bowden Institution’s Security Intelligence Office, according to an RCMP press release posted on TodayVille Red Deer.

The search yielded contraband packages containing cannabis concentrates, tobacco, fentanyl and methamphetamine that had been concealed on the property of the medium-security correctional facility, the RCMP reports.
