Tribal court quashes Saint Regis council orders on dispensaries

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal (SRMT) Court has quashed the tribal council’s attempts to shutter five dispensaries it ordered closed earlier this month.

The decisions, announced Wednesday, removed some of the temporary cease-and-desist order issued by the SRMT Council that sought to close and fine seven shops on the territory that operated without a council-issued licence after July 1. These were followed up with temporary restraining orders against five businesses on July 7.

The orders and a request from the SRMT for permanent injunctions were contested in court by Bud Ease Dispensary (Gage Bigtree), Sasta Budz Dispensary (Keaton Thomas-Lazore), Golden Nugget Dispensary (Seth Oakes), Native Flower Dispensary (Courtney Armstrong) and Good Leaf Dispensary (Morris Oakes, Gabriel Oakes, William Roger Jock (Kanerahtiio).
