The Royal New Zealand Navy has made its second multi-million dollar drug bust in a week.
Authorities seized 3,600 kilograms of hash, valued at $2.59 million ($2.27 million), from a vessel outside the Arabian Gulf. Authorities believe the drugs were intended to “fund terrorism,” reports the New Zealand Herald.
A week earlier, the navy task force, in a joint effort with the French Marine Nationale frigate FS Languedoc, seized 1,525 kilograms of hash and 166 kgs of methamphetamine. That bust was valued at $7.4 million ($6.5 million).
“For the second time in a week, the French frigate Languedoc has demonstrated her expertise and professionalism in seizing a large volume of narcotics that would have otherwise been destined for market with the funds from the sale being used to fund terrorism and criminal activity,” said Royal New Zealand Navy Captain Brendon Clark.
