Toronto pot shop’s dog water bowl sprayed with unknown substance

Doggone it.

Spiritleaf Cannabis in Toronto’s Riverside neighbourhood experienced a “disturbing” incident last weekend when a man sprayed something into a community water bowl outside the pot store.

Michael Catalfamo, owner of the Queen St.-Broadview Ave. area outlet, said Tuesday that the man was spotted around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

A witness alerted store staff, who contacted police.

“We did dump the water before any dogs could be potentially harmed,” Catalfamo said, “but it was disturbing to see that somebody intentionally sprayed something into the water bowl.”

Added Catalfamo, “As soon as my employee alerted me that happened, I contacted police and the police came and filed a report. Nobody that works at the shop recognized him.”

A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service said its investigation was ongoing.

Catalfamo said he wasn’t aware of any similar incidents in the generally dog-friendly neighbourhood.
