Detector dog Waffle earned a few extra belly rubs this week after alerting authorities in Ireland to a cannabis shipment valued at more than $500,000.
The 10.5 million cigarettes, branded ‘Blue River’, were seized by officers at Dublin Port, who valued the haul at more than €7 million, or nearly $10 million CAD.
In July, Waffle uncovered an even larger shipment of tobacco at Dublin Port , this time valued at €7.7 million ($11 million).
Waffle’s coworker, James, has also helped with a few busts this year.
In March, James led officers to 55 kilograms of cannabis and two kg of cannabis-infused sweets at Dublin Port.
The drugs were concealed in suitcases inside a commercial vehicle and reportedly have a value of 1.2 million euros ($1.8 million).
