Police find truckload of compressed cannabis hidden in shipment of eucalyptus wood

A couple transporting an 18-wheeler full of cannabis near the Malaysia-Thailand border learned the hard way that cargo-loading inconsistencies can attract unwanted attention.

They decided to remove some of the wood in one suspicious spot and quickly discovered 20 fertilizer sacks stuffed with about 1,051 kilograms of compressed cannabis. Checking out the second spot, officers then found 14 more sacks with 629 kg of weed, the Bangkok Post reports.

It is estimated that had the illegal cargo made its way to Malaysia, it would have been worth at least $50 million baht ($1.9 million), according to CTN News.

The 37-year-old driver of the truck, who was travelling with his 24-year-old wife, reportedly told police he was waiting for someone to take the marijuana by boat to its final destination. The couple was arrested and will likely face drug offences.
