Sales of recreational cannabis in New Mexico is off to a roaring start. Sales topped $3 million in the first weekend of legalization. On April 1, 2022, New Mexico opened the doors for adult-use cannabis and sales totaled $3,092,712 in the first weekend.
On Friday, sales officially kicked off after midnight, with hundreds of eager customers lined up outside the dispensaries in anticipation of the historic opening. State officials believe that 49,552 transactions for recreational cannabis transactions had been recorded over the weekend.
New Mexico is the 18th state to legalize recreational pot use for adults after its Democratic governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, signed a bill into law last spring.
