Members of the RCMP’s Grand Falls-Windsor detachment in Newfoundland and Labrador were busy over the Labour Day Weekend with impaired driving and traffic violators.
“Alcohol and drugs impair the driver’s ability to drive safely and increase the risk of a collision,” according to the provincial government.
Canada Drives reports that while driving with between two and five nanograms (ng) of THC per ml of blood is prohibited, the offence is even more serious when it’s above 5 ng per ml.
A level of 2 to 5 ng of THC per ml of blood sparks a summary conviction, which carries a maximum fine of $1,000, per information from the federal government. But being convicted of having more than 5 ng of THC or any detectable levels of substances such as cocaine, magic mushrooms and methamphetamine will lead to a mandatory $1,000 fine and up to 10
