Weekend decorator: Adding pizzazz to an awkward room

I hesitate to make my last suggestion because for the most part the room is working quite well, but if you’re feeling bold, you could get rid of all the furniture and try doing a symmetrical arrangement instead. Two small loveseats facing each other could work really well here and create a calmer atmosphere. There are a lot of lines, and a lot going on visually, and symmetry is often the answer to that problem. I’m imagining two caramel velvet sofas, small in scale, with two identical long and narrow coffee tables in front of each sofa. If there’s room, reuse your armchairs kitty corner to each sofa, facing the fireplace. You don’t need the lighting to be symmetrical and you could have the arc lamp on one site, a small table on the right side with a table lamp, and I would keep the idea of a sofa table
