I want an abundant, prosperous country, so I look at real output. For aluminum, we’re at a 75-year low — less than 700,000 metric tons of aluminum smelted. Four smelters. That’s terrible, and it’s not getting better. As for steel, how many tons of steel are melted and poured in the U.S.? Down over a decade. How many cars have we assembled? A million less.
