Millennial cannabis enthusiasts are joining The Ice Cream Shop and Master P in celebrating the life of Fate Vincent Winslow, a Louisiana man who was sentenced to life imprisonment for a twenty-dollar worth of marijuana. To that effect, millennial smokers have declared 5/20 (pronounced as Five-Twenty) Cannabis Freedom Day.
Cannabis Freedom Day
According to Percy Miller, also known as Master P of The Ice Cream Shop, this celebration is meant to increase awareness against incarceration for small amounts of cannabis and the injustice involved.
“This life sentence should have been reduced a long time ago. Even though he was released in 2020, he died in 2021. We have to make sure that this injustice doesn’t happen to more people. We need to increase awareness, help educate our culture and help prepare the imprisoned for freedom. Anyone who is incarcerated for a small amount of cannabis and is fighting this injustice, we want to help them gain their freedom back,” Miller says.
So far, cannabis legalization has become more widespread, and more than 60 thousand cannabis-related convictions have been reduced or expunged in California, where cannabis is legal. As of 2021, up to 34 states have small amounts of such cases.
Cannabis-related injustices
In states where marijuana remains illegal, individuals arrested for cannabis can end up with a permanent criminal record, denying them various essential opportunities and services like housing, employment, financial aid, and even child custody.
Millennials have now joined The Ice Cream Shop and Master P in this movement to bring awareness to this injustice by declaring May 20, Cannabis Freedom Day. 5/20 is slang for cannabis culture, which denotes exotic marijuana consumption. The cannabis community will mark the day by smoking around the time 5:20 pm and referring to cannabis-oriented celebrations happening annually on May 20, which is 5/20 in U.S. form.
According to the CMO of The Ice Cream Shop, the event will highlight the voice of the Millennial Generation.
“4/20 has historically been the official day of celebration in cannabis culture for decades. For the voice of the Millennial Generation, we are claiming a new day not just to celebrate cannabis but also to bring awareness to the social, racial, and economic injustices of the criminalization of marijuana,” says the CMO.
This day puts another history in the making as millions are set to celebrate a New Holiday across the U.S and the world. They will smoke exotic cannabis while celebrating freedom and inspiring legislative and judicial change on this heroic 5/20/2021 movement.
The event will also be celebrated at The Ice Cream Shop in Studio City, California. For 5/20/2022, National Cannabis Freedom Festivals are equally in the making around the globe to celebrate medical and adult-use cannabis legalization to shine a ray of hope for those who are unfairly punished. The Ice Cream Shop and Master P are set to release a documentary in 2022 entitled “5.20 Cannabis Freedom.
