“I hadn’t read anything like it. If a script can find me that is original, I want to do it. But it also has a beautiful love story at its heart. It’s about this man, Amziah, and this girl, Kateri, who he took in as a foster parent. Their past and that relationship is rekindled. She’s a bit lost and wandering, and he brings her back into the fold to give her a sense of belonging. Amziah does that and he gives her family (again). The way he does that is he makes her the centre of his universe, and shows her there’s only one you. Everybody is only themselves and, guess what, everybody can sing, whether they think they can or not. Nobody’s judging you. Go! You’re on. That showmanship and heart that Amziah has is something that made me think I would really like to go wear those
