About 40 per cent of drivers with past-year alcohol and cannabis use drove under the influence

A new U.S. study shows more than 40 per cent of drivers admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or both over the past year.

The study, carried out by researchers at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, was published in the peer-reviewed journal American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

Based on self-reports, investigators looked at the effects on drivers when using alcohol and cannabis simultaneously, using only cannabis or using only alcohol.
