Alberta cannabis regulator reminds retailers and producers about the province’s inducement rules

Alberta’s cannabis regulator is reminding industry stakeholders about provincial rules after receiving six complaints regarding marijuana retailers forcing pot suppliers to buy sales data in exchange for stocking products, reports The Canadian Press.

Alberta, which once led the nation in cannabis retailers, posted more than $63 million in recreational cannabis sales in March, according to the latest figures available from Statistics Canada. The province trailed only Ontario, which posted nearly $145 million in monthly sales.

Alberta could soon see some consolidation in the increasingly competitive retail environment, according to a recent report from Connecticut-based data firm Cannabis Benchmarks.

Noting that the province has the highest number of cannabis stores per capita, the report states Alberta is the only province above the optimal number of cannabis stores.
