A B.C. senior is out several thousand dollars after being targeted in an elaborate and professional scam.
She was instructed to place the cash in an envelope and someone would meet her outside the residence to pick it up, adding that her grandson would be freed from custody following the exchange.
According to police, the suspect who picked up the envelope is a woman in her early twenties with light purple wavy shoulder-length hair, standing about 5’4” in height. She was wearing a faded charcoal sweatshirt, patterned leggings and pink Crocs.
“It is despicable that criminals are using family bonds to manipulate seniors out of thousands of dollars,” a police spokesperson said in a news release. “We’re asking people to speak to friends and family about this incident, and to share with them the techniques the fraudsters used.
