Canadian busted in Scotland for attempted weed-smuggling bid

A man from Canada was taken into custody at the Edinburgh Airport after border officers found him with about 40 kilograms of cannabis on Jan. 22.

After being found with the illegal drug, officers from the joint NCA and Police Scotland Organised Crime Partnership were called in to interview the man.

He appeared in court this week and “was remanded in custody until his next hearing,” the NCA notes.

It is not clear what the accused planned to do with the cannabis.

The NCA reports, nonetheless, that “most forms of illegal drugs originate overseas and are trafficked into the UK via various routes, including container shipping, yachts and small boats, light aircraft, vehicle traffic from continental Europe, airline passengers and the post and fast parcels.”
