Cannabis and hallucinogenic mushroom advertising barred on New York’s public transit

New York legalized recreational cannabis earlier this year and those 21 and older are allowed to possess up to three ounces (85 grams) of flower or 24 grams of concentrates, in addition to storing as much as five pounds (2.3 kilograms) at home.

Adapting to legalization, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is no longer seizing cannabis under three ounces.

“New Yorkers 21 years old and older can possess, obtain and transport up to three ounces of cannabis,” a spokesperson from the Port Authority said earlier this year.

Larger amounts can still lead to arrests. According to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, possession of three to eight ounces (85 to 227 grams) is a misdemeanour that could lead to a year-long jail sentence and a fine of US$1,000 ($1,263).
