Cannabis consumers come out on top in quality of life study

A study out of Brazil published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research has found that cannabis consumption is associated with better quality of life (QoL) outcomes.

The cross-sectional study included 7,405 Brazilian adults. Of those adults, 89.4 per cent were cannabis consumers and 10.6 per cent abstained from the plant.

Researchers found that the “highest scores for quality of life were observed among habitual cannabis users, followed by occasional users, while both non-users and dysfunctional users presented less favourable scores.”

Study respondents answered an online survey that included substance use information, such as initiation of cannabis consumption, lifetime use and past-month use. Standardized scales were used to assess QoL, subjective well-being, anxiety and depression scores.
