Cannabis farm with about 2,000 plants found in derelict building

A public tip about a possible illegal cannabis farm paid off last week when officers with the Merseyside Police’s Operation Target team found about 2,000 plants hidden in a derelict building in Knowsley, U.K.

“This is a significant find for us and officers have been busy clearing the location over the weekend,” Morgan reports, adding that the police probe for those responsible is continuing.

Officers “have already been speaking to business owners and locals nearby, so I am confident we will track the owners down,” he adds.

Disused buildings are frequently used for illegal cannabis operations.

This past January, police in Birmingham found a sophisticated and extensive cannabis grow-op in an abandoned warehouse housing more than 3,000 plants. “It’s one of the biggest we’ve discovered in recent months and we suspect it’s being used to fund organized crime,” the West Midlands Police reported
