Check by animal control officer leads to the discovery of 200 kg of cannabis

A suspect is being sought in connection with the discovery of approximately 200 kilograms of processed cannabis at a property in Corning, Calif. last week.

The weed was discovered after an animal control officer with the Corning Police Department (CPD) was conducting official business in the area and detected a strong cannabis odour at 8:28 a.m. on Oct. 6.

Beyond the number of plants, though, cities and counties govern any related permit requirements and determine whether or not outdoor cultivation is allowed at all, the state government reports.

The CPD makes clear that “Corning municipal codes do not allow any outdoor growing or cultivation of marijuana within the city limits.”

That being the case, the officer immediately alerted his supervisor, who along with other officers, responded to the scene a short time later.
