Plumstead Police in the U.K. came upon some interesting residents when they busted a large cannabis grow-op over the weekend: a school of catfish.
Beyond the cannabis, though, the authorities came upon nine catfish swimming in murky water. Noting there were “concerns regarding animal welfare,” a police tweet reports that representatives for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals attended and took all the fish “to a safe place due to the conditions they were kept in.”
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the cannabis factory, but inquiries are ongoing.
The maximum penalty, upon conviction, for supplying or producing cannabis is a prison sentence of 14 years, an unlimited fine or both, according to NI Direct Government Services.
The catfish are hardly the first animals to be discovered when busting illegal cannabis factories.
