Dealer who supplied ‘significant quantities’ of drugs sentenced after police infiltrate encrypted messaging service

A 28-year-old man in the U.K. has been sentenced to a prison term of eight years and four months after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine, heroin, cannabis and codeine.

In one message, the man referred to 150 kilograms of an unknown drug that was “stuck in Holland.” In others, he discussed how the pandemic had impacted his business.

In December, a 47-year-old man had his holidays ruined after sharing photos of his Christmas tree decorated in drugs and cash on the messaging platform.

He was one of nine men who were busted in a conspiracy to supply millions of pounds of drugs, according to Merseyside Police. Of those nine men, four were using EncroChat in an attempt to cover their tracks.

According to BBC, at least 1,000 arrests were made across Europe after the network was infiltrated.
