Drug smugglers float big truck of weed across Rio Grande

Yet another would-be cannabis smuggler was left swimming back to Mexico after apparently believing that border guards don’t watch the border.

Agents with the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol recently intercepted a half-million-dollar shipment of weed being ferried across the Rio Grande between Mexico and Texas.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer, packed with 28 bundles of cannabis weighing 294 kilograms and worth an estimated $648,750, was spotted by agents working near Brownsville on the evening of Mar. 22.

The officers observed the truck “making an incursion into the U.S.,” notes U.S. Customs and Border Protection. But as they arrived in the area, the vehicle changed direction, heading back toward the river.

Agents saw the driver jump into the Rio Grande and swim back to Mexico. It is not clear if there were others or, if so, where they went.
