Five charged after $50M illegal cannabis grow found

An almost two-year-old police probe ended earlier this week when officers raided a rural property in the economic region known as The Hume in Victoria, Australia and discovered an illegal grow-op valued at $50.6 million.

Officers from The Hume Police District established Strike Force Croze in May of 2020 to investigate the large-scale cultivation of cannabis throughout the local area. Following extensive investigations and assistance from local and state bodies, detectives executed a search warrant on a single property on Feb. 8.

“A large-scale cannabis cultivation setup was allegedly located, with polytunnels and hydroponic equipment,” according to the New South Wales (NSW) Police.
