Correctional staff at Millhaven Institution just east of Bath, Ont. this week seized tobacco, hash, cannabis concentrates and methamphetamine.
Staff at the maximum-security federal institution, rated to house about 500 inmates, discovered the contraband and unauthorized items on Aug 9.
Specifically, officers seized three grams of tobacco, 24 grams of hash, 15 grams of shatter and nine grams of methamphetamine, per Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The seizures of several bags of contraband were the result of the vigilance of staff members, the department reports.
CSC and its staff have tools to help prevent contraband from entering correctional institutions such as ion scanners, detector dogs and a telephone tip line, as well as work with police to thwart the introduction of contraband and unauthorized items.
