It’s time for France to spark up doobies legally

A recent proposal in the French Parliament to legalize cannabis consumption is unlikely to go the distance, but it seems to be bringing a whole lot of attention to the issue.

In a tweet last week, L’insoumission, which is the multimedia platform of la France insoumise (LFI), reported that “ 54 per cent of French people support the LFI bill , currently being examined in the National Assembly.”

Cannabis remains illegal in France. New Frontier Data pointed out in the fall of 2020 that while it’s touche-pas for growing higher-THC cannabis, France’s hemp production sector is thriving.

Cannabis continues to be prohibited for personal use despite residents demonstrating a healthy appetite for the plant, with France 24 noting that the country is Europe’s biggest weed consumer.
