N.B. eyes allowing ‘private’ cannabis retailers in rural areas to up access, reduce illegal players

The New Brunswick government is considering loosening its grip, sort of, on cannabis retail by proposing that some standalone private Cannabis NB retailers be allowed to operate in underserved rural areas.

Amendments to the Cannabis Act were introduced Tuesday by finance minister Ernie Steeves, according to Global News. The idea is to better serve citizens who live away from stores in urban centres, combat illegal weed dispensaries in rural areas and ensure that cannabis is safe and of high quality.
