Nevada Lawmakers Pass Bill To Create Psychedelics Working Group, Sending It To Governor

The Nevada legislature has given final approval to a bill to create a new working group to study psychedelics and develop a plan to allow regulated access for therapeutic purposes. It now heads to the governor’s desk.

The Assembly passed the measure from Sen. Rochelle Nguyen (D) in a 40-0 vote on Sunday, one day ahead of the scheduled end of the session. This comes days after it cleared the full Senate, as well as an Assembly committee on Friday.

There was no discussion on the floor ahead of the unanimous vote.

Nguyen told committee members at the Friday hearing that she first learned about the benefits of psychedelics from constituents who raised the issue with her.

“The people that come to you are not people that look like they’re out of a Woodstock video…but they are first responders,” she said. “They are firefighters, they are police officers, they are veterans and they are people that don’t traditionally fit the bill of someone that you would think of when we talk about mushrooms or psychedelics.”
