New book captures life at Owl Farm, the home of Hunter S. Thompson

A new book from Chloe Sells, the personal assistant and photographer of Hunter S. Thompson (HST), offers a fresh perspective into the life of the legendary gonzo journalist.

Sells was recruited to join Owl Farm, Thompsons’ Colorado home, while attending the after-party for Breakfast with Hunter, a 2003 documentary about the everyday life of HST.

Thompson’s wife, Anita, approached Sells. “She looked me up and down and said, ‘We’re looking for some help for Hunter. Are you a night owl? Would you be interested?’” Sells writes in Hot Damn!, per The Guardian. 

That conversation marked the beginning of a years-long relationship in which Sells helped Thompson with everything from transcribing to editing, preparing meals, aiding his recovery from hip surgery and even reading him bedtime stories.
