Ohio Voters Will Decide On A Marijuana Legalization Ballot Initiative On Tuesday As Polls Show Strong Support

Ohio voters are heading to the polls on Tuesday to decide on a ballot initiative to legalize marijuana in the state as polls have consistently shown strong support for the measure.

This marks the culmination of an intensive campaign to put legalization before voters, which took activists to the courts, legislature and finally the ballot. If the proposal becomes law, it would bring the total number of states with adult-use legalization to 24.

The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol (CTRMLA) initiative would establish a regulatory framework to allow adults 21 and older to purchase, possess and cultivate cannabis. And if recent surveys are any indication, it’s expected to pass—in spite of opposition from the governor and GOP state lawmakers.

The text of the summary language for the initiative—designated as Issue 2—says the measure would legalize and regulate “the cultivation, processing, sale, purchase, possession, home grow, and use of cannabis by adults at least twenty-one years of age.”
