Ontario driver charged with impaired after being found asleep behind the wheel

A 47-year-old Ontario man is facing several charges, including drug trafficking offences, after being found asleep behind the wheel.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call about a vehicle in an intersection in Penetanguishene, about 160 kilometres north of Toronto, that hadn’t moved for a “significant length of time,” reports CTV Barrie.

In August, a 20-year-old man from Brantford, Ont., was arrested in similar circumstances.

After receiving a tip from the public about a possibly impaired driver, members of the Brantford Police Service located the vehicle in a parking lot with the driver apparently unconscious man. They also observed cannabis readily available.

The man was arrested after failing a drug evaluation and charged with operation while impaired. Officers also recovered Oxycodone pills and a small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine from the vehicle.
