A 39-year-old organized crime leader in the U.K. who earned millions of dollars while running 12 cannabis factories has been sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.
Appearing in court on Mar. 3, the man was handed the sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to produce cannabis and concealing criminal property, notes a statement from the Surrey Police.
Police say its investigation revealed that from 2016 to 2021, 12 industrial units had been rented across southeast England and transformed into illegal pot farms. The man initially reported that he had rented the units, but did not know how they were being used.
Recreational cannabis is illegal in the U.K., with the top penalty for supplying or producing cannabis being 14 years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.
