Police say seized bud worth $20k, accused says its ‘useless,’ values it at $70

A man in Ireland is disputing a police estimate that pegs the value of his stash at €14,000 ($20,000), reports Sunday World.

Sergeant Patricia McGarrity told Swords District Court that “drugs are not quality-assured when they are bought on the street,” adding that the valuation was based on the weight, not quality, of the pot.

After pleading guilty to possession of cannabis and having the drug for sale or supply, Byrne was fined €300 ($430) and received a nine-month sentence, suspended for two years.

Cannabis remains a Class B drug in the U.K., where possession can lead to up to five years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.
