Pot-smoking senate candidate burns something new: a Confederate flag

The last time Gary Chambers let it burn, the “it” was a fatty lovingly smoked in his first campaign ad espousing the benefits of legalizing cannabis.

This time around, in an ad called “Scars and Bars,” the Democratic candidate for the Louisiana Senate has again employed his trusty lighter to torch a Confederate flag and argue for equality in his state and across the U.S. south.

“They said, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,” he says in the one-minute spot quoting the Declaration of Independence, as he waves the American flag.
