RCMP seize nearly 30 kilograms of mushrooms from residence in B.C.

Surrey RCMP have shut down a psilocybin mushroom grow after receiving information about drug activity from the Surrey Fire Service.

Psilocybin and psilocin are illegal to possess, obtain or produce without an exemption or licence as they currently remain Schedule III substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

As of June 2021, B.C.-based non-profit TheraPsil has supported 32 patients and 19 healthcare professionals in five different provinces obtain Section 56 exemptions to the CDSA so that they can legally use and possess psilocybin for therapeutic and training purposes.

Psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy has shown remarkable efficacy in treating mental health conditions like treatment-resistant depression, as well as end-of-life distress and anxiety related to terminal diagnoses.
