“Some of the research shows an inherent tension between DEI frameworks, and the ability to understand antisemitism,” Lenton said. “When DEI is framed almost exclusively around systemic barriers defined by race, it cannot grapple with how antisemitism operates along religious, cultural, economic and national lines. The result is that antisemitism is frequently not mentioned at all in institutional DEI policies, or, when it is, the national dimension of Jewish identity is explicitly excluded.”
