The numbers are, in a word, staggering. And, with the caveat that so far all that anyone can say from a legal perspective is that it all looks quite fishy, the story is that the Ontario government allowed itself to shovel hundreds of millions of student-grant dollars out the door for a period of months, if not years, with what must have been vanishingly little oversight. It’s the kind of thing that would cause Doug Ford to sputter in indignation at the wastefulness of it all, except for the part where he’s the premier. It’s his government that was doing the shovelling.
