Steph Curry says he was told to stay silent by Whitehouse when offering help in Brittney Griner’s case

According to Rolling Stone, Curry reached out to his contacts in the Biden administration offering to help but was told “Don’t say anything.”

In the weeks immediately following Griner’s arrest, teammates and other Woman’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) figures were also reportedly told to stay silent to avoid inflaming delicate negotiations that were happening in the background. 

That began to change around April, as other fellow athletes and those close to Griner focused on putting her case in the spotlight.

“The big thing is the fact that we have to go over there. It was BG, but it could have been anybody,” Breanna Stewart, the top pick in the 2017 WNBA draft, told The Associated Press that month.

Women’s basketball players can reportedly earn four to five times their U.S. salaries when playing in Russia.
