A new study funded by the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse and published in World Psychiatry has found that fully vaccinated individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) may be more likely to suffer breakthrough infections of the virus, though the risk remains low.

“Among SUD patients, the risk for breakthrough infection ranged from 6.8 per cent for tobacco use disorder to 7.8 per cent for cannabis use disorder, all significantly higher than the 3.6 per cent in non-SUD population,” the study states.
