Dagher’s words matched the tone of the procession, which was solemn despite the warm and sunny weather. It was also a show of strength of the combined local, provincial and federal forces that participated. According to the SPVM, about 5,000 officers took part. In addition to local police officers in uniform and detectives in suits, it included officers from other cities across Canada including Ottawa, London, Ont., and Surrey, B.C., to name a few. It also included police cadets, paramedics, firefighters, officers from Quebec’s provincial police — the Sûreté du Québec — the RCMP and Canadian Armed Forces military police. Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada and family members of the SPVM were also in attendance.
