South Padre Island in Texas, known for attracting hordes of spring-breakers, had a visit of a different kind when about 105 kilograms of weed was recently seized off its shores.
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) confiscated the bundles of bounty after crew on-board a law enforcement boat from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island reportedly saw three people on a raft.
Each with a bale of suspected cannabis on their backs, the individuals were trying to cross the Brownsville Ship Channel at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 31 when they were busted, the USCG reports.
Crew members intercepted the raft and seized the bales of marijuana. The individuals were later transported to Homeland Security Investigations and the contraband was transferred to the South Padre Island Police.
