Three reasons Hollywood stopped making stoner comedies

Over the past several years, cult classic stoner comedies such as Superbad and The Hangover seem to have become rarities. The lack of these sorts of comedies is somewhat surprising, and certainly disappointing, given how big a deal they were for many moviegoers a decade or so ago.

Consider that The Hangover II grossed US$581 million in global ticket sales, a healthy return on its US$80 million dollar budget.

Unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall for stoner comedies for a while now. Here are just a few reasons why Hollywood has left weed-heavy comedies by the wayside.
