A lifelong Leafs fan, the Whitby, Ont., native signed a one-game National Hockey League contract for $500 and backstopped the Hurricanes to victory, stopping eight of 10 shots, when both of Carolina’s goalies went down with injuries during a Feb. 2020 game against Toronto.
