It wasn’t much of a 4/20 celebration for two drivers who were arrested for drug trafficking following a crash that left about 227 kilograms of cannabis scattered on Interstate 70 in Missouri.
One driver apparently fled the scene, according to NBC News Channel 8, but was apprehended about 50 kilometres away.
A 32-year-old Mexican national has been charged with felony first-degree drug trafficking, notes the online arrest report from police. Another Mexican national, aged 34, faces the same count and also for driving resulting in a crash.
Although recreational cannabis has been decriminalized in Missouri, it remains illegal. JCS Law reports that trafficking 100 or more kilograms of weed is a felony punishable by 10 years to life in prison, a fine of as much as $25,000 or both.
“Luckily, nobody was seriously injured” in the crash, MSHP reports.
