One million cannabis plants will be freely distributed across Thailand beginning next month.
Only those who are using the plant for medical purposes and have notified their local government will be permitted to cultivate cannabis. Beyond that, recreational cannabis consumption and cannabis extracts that contain more than 0.2 per cent THC remain illegal, reports VICE.
Home growers will also face random inspections, according to Thailand’s food and drug regulator.
If individuals grow at home without notifying the government, they face a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or about $750, while those who sell cannabis without a licence could face up to three years in jail and a 300,00 ($11,200) baht fine.
