York Regional Police officer charged with fabricating drug evidence

A 24-year-old officer with the York Regional Police (YRP) has been charged with obstruction of justice, fabrication of evidence and breach of trust following an internal investigation. 

The investigation into the officer, conducted by the York Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau, began after other officers came forward to a supervisor with their concerns about the officer’s conduct. 

According to the statement, the investigation remains ongoing. In the interim, the officer has been suspended with pay. 

“I am deeply disappointed by this violation of the public trust, however, I am very proud of and commend those officers who came forward to report their concerns to their supervisors,” YRP Chief Jim MacSween says.
